Bids For Kids event raises over $60K for Math & Reading Assistance Programs in Elkhorn Public Schools

Earlier this year, the Elkhorn Public Schools Foundation hosted its most successful Bids For Kids fundraiser thanks to the generosity of the event’s auction donors, bidders, and sponsors.

From September 1st to September 9th, more than 400 members of the Elkhorn community came together (both in-person and online) and raised over $60K to help fund the Math & Reading Assistance Programs that take place in the Elkhorn District’s elementary schools.

“This year, the Foundation hosted a more intimate gathering that really focused on highlighting the programs and community we are fundraising for. We also added new sponsorships as well as a to-go option for those who wanted to host a watch party from their home and participate remotely.”

Both in-person attendees and online event supporters heard from Event Sponsor Jesse Moseman of MyVindex, a previous Elkhorn Public Schools student who struggled with a learning disability as a young student, as well as two teachers in the Elkhorn District that instruct (before and after school) Math & Reading Clubs at their schools.

“I am very grateful to everyone who supports the Foundation because without it we couldn’t do this for our students. As a teacher in a classroom who just wants to get to that student who you can tell has the potential, but maybe not the courage to ask a question in front of 22 other students– I thank you for giving us the opportunity to get to that student.”

This year’s Bids For Kids event featured 324 auction items, many of which were donated by local businesses and friends of the Elkhorn Public Schools Foundation. Some of the most coveted items included a golf getaway to the Dormie Club Network, a patio bistro set, a “glamping” trip to the Slattery Vintage Estates, Elkhorn Graduation Ceremony Packages, and behind-the-scenes tour packages at the Henry Doorly Zoo. Over 2,500 bids were made over the 10-day online auction!

“It is truly so great to be able to invite our community back into our building this year. Thank you to everyone who bid on this year’s items! It’s because of you that we’re able to fund these vital programs that help our District’s young students receive the extra help they need to be successful.”

About Bids For Kids

Bids For Kids is an annual fundraiser hosted by the Elkhorn Public Schools Foundation. Proceeds from this event fund the Math & Reading Clubs that take place in the Elkhorn District’s elementary schools before and after school. Formally known as “Math and Reading Intervention,” these clubs help students gain confidence through small group tutoring and improve their overall math and reading comprehension.

In the 2020-2021 school year, nearly 200 elementary students needed additional instruction in math and reading. As students transition back to school full-time from intermittent online learning, that number is expected to rise significantly. Because of the generous support of our Bids For Kids sponsors, donors, and bidders, we’re able to continue to fund these assistance programs as the need for them increases.

If you are interested in making a donation to help fund these important programs, you can donate online or call the Elkhorn Public Schools Foundation office at (402)289.1727. Thank you for your support!
